A piece of popular culture that demonstrates Valentine's Day genre conventions would be Twitter memes such as the one below. They are in the form of a digital medium and almost always have a humorous tone. These memes are very popular on twitter during the time period leading up to V-day. They fulfill genre conventions because they feature the style of Valentine's Day. Some might feel that these memes serve as a discrepancy to typical genre conventions because they at times feature crude jokes that can be viewed as inappropriate. The memes mock and parody true love, romance, passion, etc...through their sexual suggestive humor and writing style. It should be noted that the example below does not feature the type of crude language I am discussing because I did not want to feature something inappropriate on my personal wix page. This is a good example, however, of a meme that would fulfill, not contradict, Valentine's Day genre conventions. The background is light pink. There is a place to say who its from and who its for, similar to a real life valentines card. The joke, "do u have a band aid bc i just scraped my knee fallen 4 u" is in the form of a question and is an attempt to win over a lover, or possible valentine.
