Question: Is the book always better?

Subject: The Hunger Games

Although many people might disagree with me, I find that the movie, The Hunger Games, is better than the novel. I think this is due to the fact that the movie does a better job of showcasing the action scenes that accompany the plot. I also find that actual visual images make it easier to demonstrate certain aspects of the story. This could include the style of civilians who live in the Capital (their flamyboyant dress, the bright colors, and over-the-top-style). While the book can only describe these images using a text-based mode, the movie can put the image right there in front of the viewer. Another image that is better presented with an actual digital visual is what the different sectors look like (what different people of different sectors look like, the landscape, etc). Of course, action scenes, a large part of The Hunger Games, are more entertaining to watch than to read. Transferring information or stories from one mode to another (remediation) requires important choices to be made. A movie leads to a whole different experience for the audience. Words can present ideas or characters on a basic surface level. Books are proactive and the reader must analyze the ideas presented.
